Mary Lou was born on December 23, 1937 in Letts, the daughter of Arthur Ellsworth and Mary Susan McCoy Thompson. She graduated from Letts High School and from Iowa Wesleyan with her two year teaching certificate. Later she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching and her art teachers certificate from Iowa State Teachers College. She was an art teacher in the Marshalltown School System for 36 years. Mary Lou was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa and P.E.O. Mary Lou enjoyed teaching art to Junior High students and traveling with her friends. Those left to honor her memory include her sister of Letts, nine nieces nd nephews; several great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Thompson.
