April 21, 1921 Mrs. Mary Louisa Lake passed away Wednesday morning shortly after 5 o'clock at her home, 1458 Seventh avenue. Altho she had not been in good health for some time and confined to her bed for about two weeks her death was unexpected, for she had seemed so much better the days before. Mrs. Lake was a true pioneer of Linn County, having lived in or near Marion all her life. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ives and was born June 29, 1848, on a farm about five miles east of Marion. In 1870 she was married to Joseph Lake, and the home was established in Marion. Mr. Lake was at one time postmaster. His death occurred about twenty-one years ago. Three sons, John, of Terre Haute, Ind., Weare, of Marion, Ben, of Manly, and a daughter, Mrs. J.P. Oliver, of Marion, two sisters, Mrs. J.M. Booth and Mrs. Lucy Bunting residing here, two brother, N.E. Ives, of Washington, D.C. and J.J. Ives, of Marion, three grandchildren and one little great granddaughter, born a little over a week ago, survive. Early in life, Mrs. Lake gave her heart to Christ, and became a member of the Baptist church, later transferring her membership to the Christian church. All these years have been given in loyal service, in various capacities, and there are many who have been influenced to a better life by her words and deeds. In her younger days she gave much time to organizing the young people in missionary work and in teaching them in the Bible school. She was loved not only for her good deeds, but for her optimism, and her young friends always enjoyed a visit with her. She will be missed in her church, for she always attended when physically able. The arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, but will be upon the arrival of the eldest son John who is expected tonight. Her brother, from Washington D.C., may also come. The services will probably be held some time Saturday, with the Rev. A.W. Higby, of the Christian church, officiating.
