She was the last surviving member of a family of 10 children. Her girlhood was spent in Missouri, where she was married to John Comb, December 8, 1850. Read More	The Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa January 17, 1929, Page 3 Mary Louisa Gideon Mary Louisa, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Thornton Oldham, was born in Salina County, Missouri, September 28, 1833. She was the last surviving member of a family of 10 children. Her girlhood was spent in Missouri, where she was married to John Comb, December 8, 1850. To this union were born four children, William, who died in 1866; Barbara Ellen McDonald and James Combs, of Winterset, and Mary L. R. Clark, of Denver Colorado. After living a few years in Missouri, they came to Madison county, Iowa, where they stayed for a year. They then moved to Kansas, living there four years before returning to Madison county, where Mr. Combs passed away in 1868. She was married to Peter Gideon in 1875, who died in 1916. Since leaving the farm a number of years ago, she has made her home in Winterset, in the later years making her home with he son, James COmbs. In the past eighteen months she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. S. McDonald, at Douglas township. Many years ago she united with the Early Chapel Church of Christ and later transferred her membership to Winterset. She continued in remarkable good health and was active in mind and body until a few days before her death, which occurred in the home of her daughter, Mrs. McDonald on January 8, 1929, at the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 11 days. She leaves besides her children, eighteen grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren. Rev. F. C. McCallon conducted the funeral services in the W. S. McDonald home Thursday afternoon, January 10th, and the interment was in the McDonald cemetery. Transcribed as published by Karen Brewer.
