Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Mary Kurth was born Dec. 4, 1922, in the family home near Mapleton, Iowa. She was the first born child of Leroy and Margaret (Mack) Kurth. Mary attended Mapleton area country school, St. Mary's Parochial school and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1940. As the eldest daughter, Mary helped care for her nine younger siblings. Following graduation, she worked as a mother's helper. Soon awarded a teaching certificate, Mary first taught country school. She carried water to the wooden one room schoolhouse for her students. Mary went on to attend St. Joseph's (Mercy) School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1945. She married Lyle Rosburg on July 30, 1946, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple resided in Sioux City. In 1958, they moved from LeMars to a farm outside of Mapleton. During Mary's nursing career, she worked for Dr. Ganzhorn's medical office, was a school nurse at Maple Valley Schools for 10 years and lastly Maple Heights Nursing Home. As a school nurse, Mary started the Future Nurses Club. After retiring, Mary and Lyle moved to the town of Mapleton. Mary traveled with Lyle when he transported vehicles and also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild. Mary enjoyed family vacations to the western mountains. Several winters found Mary and Lyle in Texas and Arizona, visiting with family and friends. Hobbies included card club, needlework, crosswords, quilting and gardening. She enjoyed giving her needlework and quilts to her family. As an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune, she quickly solved the word puzzles. Mary became a special aunt to Kelly (Kurth) Keiter following the death of Kelly's parents. Survivors include three sons, James (Linda) Rosburg of Las Vegas, Nev., Thomas (Carman) Rosburg of Colo, Iowa, and Raymond (Gaylene) Rosburg of Mapleton; five daughters, Linda Stedman of Long Beach, Wash., Nancy (Kenny) Bevins of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeanne (Steve) Hasbrouck of Des Moines, Susan (Richard) Warren of Omaha and Rita (James) Rosburg of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry, Ron (Esther), Paul (Rosie), Bob (Audrey), Bud (Judy), Joe (Joann); a sister, Charlene (Delmar) Lehner; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death on October 20, 2008 by her husband, Lyle; parents; infant sister, Anna Margaret; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Marlene Kurth; sister-in-law Armella Kurth; son-in-law, John Stedman; four nephews; and one niece.
