She was born February 29, 1924 in Hedrick to Cecil and Lulu Lowenberg Miller. She married James Lee on October 15, 1944 and he preceded her in death on January 14, 2018. A 1941 graduate of Hedrick High School, Lucille completed a program at Iowa Success School in their secretarial program where she competed in speed typing contests. She had worked at John Morrell & Co. for 3 years. A 1941 graduate of Hedrick High School, Lucille completed a program at Iowa Success School in their secretarial program where she competed in speed typing contests. She had worked at John Morrell & Co. for 3 years. Lucille and Jim moved to her parents farm in 1949 where she was a homemaker and assisted with the farm work. Lucille enjoyed being involved with 4-H both as a member and as a leader. Lucille had been a volunteer with Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She played the organ at the Hedrick Presbyterian Church. Lucille was a member of the 24 Club for over 50 years and Hedrick Chapter #362 Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She and Jim enjoyed their winters in Texas where she was involved in shuffleboard. In 1998 and 2001 she was the Texas State Shuffleboard Champion Ladies Division and was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame for Shuffleboard. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Swaim of West Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Vicki Lee of Waverly; 4 grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Lee of Lafayette, IN, Kevin (Dawn) Lee of Waverly, Joe (Theresa) Swaim of Waukee and Jill (Aaron) Davis of Waukee; 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Lee; son-in-law, Sam Swaim and brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Ruth Miller. Her body has been cremated. Joint memorial services for Lucille and Jim will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Winger Board Room at Pennsylvania Place with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Private inurnment will be in McCormick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vista Woods Activity Fund. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
