Since her death a letter was received by her sister ... Read More	Miss Mary Luella Fitch, oldest daughter of G.W. Fitch, of this city, was born in Ulyria township, in this county, Jan. 6, 1869. She removed with her parents to Bethel township in April 1877, and from thence to West Union in November 1879. She re ceived most of her education at the West Union High School, from which she graduated in 1888. After gradua tion she had the honor of delivering the Valedictory, and her touching and original address on that occasion still in the memory of many. Since her death a letter was received by her sister from Prof. Knoepfler, her teacher, which spoke of her in the warmest terms as a student and friend. She taught, for several terms, and her ability and faithfulness won the confidence of her pupils and their par ents. She was proficient in music, both vocal and instrumental, and some months ago she resolved to devote her whole time to music teach ing. At the time of her death she had a large number of music pupils in this city, in Clermont, in Dover township and elsewhere. In 1884 she united with the U.B. church, and in 1886 transferred her membership to the M. E. church from a natural wish to belong to the same church as the other members of her family, carrying with her into her new church relationship a warm regard for the church she had left and the fullest confidence of its mem bers. Her conduct as a christian was marked by sweetness and conscientiousness and by a quiet energy which, never, obtrusive, made itself continually, felt. In Sunday school and prayer meeting she was ready modestly to take her part. But her use fullness as a christian was most marked in social life, in which she had a rare power of winning the hearts of both young and old, a power that was always exerted for their good. Many remember, her wise and loving counsels. At the time,of her death she held the position of organist in the U. B. church. On Friday, the 7th; inst., she had given some music lessons in Clermont, and though the weather was very unfavorable resolved with usual conscientiousness to meet some engage ments on the other side of the Tur key river. While attempting to cross the river at Barker's ford she was drowned. Orrn Larson who was chop ping wood about half a mile from the ford heard her cry for help and started for the river, but was too late to render her any assistance though he succeded in getting her horse and cart to shore. The particulars of her death so far as known are in the memory of our readers and need not be repeated. Her body was not recovered till Wednesday. Few events have caused such wide spread sorrow. The efforts to find her body, made in some instances at the risk of life, are worthy of all praise. The funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 13, in the M. E. church, Rev. J. H: Keppel, of Clermont, an intimate friend of the deceased, preached the funeral sermon from Cor. 15, 44-40. One of the hymns sung was No. 10G, Gospel Hymns No.5, Some Sweet Day, By and By hymn which was a great favorite with the deceased and which she sang with friend on the day of her death. A portion of scripture was read by Rev. Mr. Bower and prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Hodge. At the close of the sermon 690 persons passed her coffin to take a last view of her face which preserved almost unaltered its rare charm of expression. The floral dec orations were exquisite and were given by the graduates of the high school, by the Daughters of Veterans and by the M. E. Sunday school. The services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Lichleiter, pastor of the U. B. church. The warmest sympathy is felt for Mr. Fitch and family in their sad bereavement. J. H. K.
