Dec 1937 - Carroll Times - Mrs. George D. Jacobs, 64, a life long resident of Carroll county, died at her home, 826 North West street, at 6:50 o'clock Tuesday morning after a lingering illness. Mrs. Jacobs had been in failing health for the last two and one half months. With the exception of one week, when she was in the St. Anthony hospital, she had been cared for at her home. During her long illness her immediate relatives were all here to see her at different times. A brother, John Harms of Forbes, ND, had been with her for the last week and was with her when she passed away. The body is at the Huffman funeral home, where it will rest until Thursday morning, when it will be removed to the family home on North West street. Rev. A.O. Bleeke, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, will conduct the services, which will be held Thursday afternoon. A short service at the family home at 2 o'clock will be followed by final rites at the Lutheran church at 2:30. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery. Mrs. Jacobs was born Mary M. Harms, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eilert Harms, Sheridan township pioneers. Her birth occurred Oct. 4, 1873, on the old homestead seven miles northeast of Carroll in Sheridan township. She attended the rural school in their district. July 27, 1904, in Carroll she became the bride of George D. Jacobs. They resided on the home farm seven miles northeast of Carroll until March, 1920, when they moved to their new home on North West street in which they have lived since that time. Mrs. Jacobs was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Lidderdale in 1888. She had belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran church of Carroll since coming here to reside in 1920. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid society of the church and was active in church work, until ill health forebade her participation. Surviving Mrs. Jacobs are her husband, George D. Jacobs; three brothers, John Harms, Forbes, N.D., George E. Harms, Cedar Rapids, and C.H. Harms, Carroll; one sister, Mrs. J.C. Ford, living near Lidderdale, and one half-brother, Henry Janssen, of Auburn. Her parents died many years ago.
