Read More	Mary Rafferty ABERDEEN - Mary Rafferty, 79, Aberdeen, formerly of Lemmon, died Wednesday, April 12, 1995, at St. Lukes Midland Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen. Mary Magdalena Rafferty was born July 21, 1915, to Christ and Marie (Stelter) Friesz at their farm home on the Cannonball River, west of New Leipzig, N.D. She grew up there and attended a rural school near the farm by walking or riding horseback. Raised in a large family, she began working on the farm at an early age. On Aug. 15, 1933, she married Owen Charles Rafferty at Bison. They began their life together in Lemmon, living with his parents. All seven of their children were born in Lemmon. Mary cooked for her husband and his family while they worked as a crew on the construction of Lemmon's Petrified Wood Park. In 1942, the Rafferty's moved to Newberg, Ore., for a time, where Owen worked in the shipyards. They returned to Lemmon in 1945 when he began working for Riley Horr in jewelry manufacturing, the forerunner of the present Wheeler Manufacturing. Mary devoted her life to raising her family. In 1967, Mr. Rafferty died. She continued to live in Lemmon and worked at Five Counties Nursing Home, later living in Sturgis and at Newberg. In 1980, she moved to Aberdeen and lived there until her death. Mary was considered a miracle by her physicians, as she had survived three open heart surgeries and an angioplasty with determination, dignity and a sense of humor. She loved fishing, bingo, card and dice games with her family, working on jigsaw puzzles, doing handwork and crafts and watching birds. She loved all animals and had innumerable pictures and figurines of birds decorating her apartment. Her main interest and love, however, was her family, and she particularly enjoyed the many family doings in later years. Grateful for having shared her life are four sons; three daughters; 19 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and three sisters. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Visitation will be from I p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and before services for one hour at the church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Her seven children will serve as casket bearers, and her grandchildren will be honorary bearers. Special music for the service will be provided by Dean Jilek, vocalist, and Mary Jean Jensen, organist.
