Knepper, of Hackney, died at a local hospital this morning at ten-forty o'clock. She was operated on there yesterday for cancer of the liver and stomach but the terrible disease was beyond control and the operation did no good. The Times Clay Center, Kansas Thursdy, December 10, 1914 Page 9 Knepper: - Mary Cheery was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, May 14, 1851, and died December 2, 1914, at her home in Winfield, after a year's illness, of cancer of the stomach. She was operated on twice, once a month ago and the last time Sunday before her death. She was married to Samuel F. Knepper in Ohio in 1873 and came to Illinois in 1874. She returned to Ohio in 1879 and lived there until they moved to Clay county in 1886, settling in Gill township, where they lived on a farm until 1908, moving to Winfield, Kan., where she died. The funeral was held Saturday, December 5th, at 11 o'clock a.m. at the United Brethren church, of which she was a member. The services were conducted by Rev. Russell and were largely attended by friends. Mrs. Knepper numbered with the county's prominent people and will be will remembered here. She was aged sixty-three years, six months and eighteen days. She was the mother of seven sons and four daughters, three of whom have preceded her in death. The living children are: Emerson of Clay Center; Alfred of Yuma, Ariz.; Gilbert of Clay Center; Leslie of Wakefield; Edward of Yuma, Ariz.; Jesse and Herbert, at the home in Winfield; and Mrs. Maude Crane of Colorado, who came several months ago and lived in Winfield by her mother's home.
