Binek was born March 6th, 1932 in Leith, North Dakota as the 6th child of John and Kathrina (Pilarske) Binek. Mary was united in marriage with Reuben Hillius on September 30th, 1950 in Mott, North Dakota. Shortly thereafter, her husband joined the national guard and they relocated to Alabama. In 1952, they returned to Lemmon, South Dakota where they built their life together. Mary was blessed with four children, Keith, Michael, Steve, and Debra. While the children were young, Mary flourished as a loving mother and wife. After all of their children were grown, she started working as a home care health aide for the state of South Dakota. She continued to work for about 10 years. Mary enjoyed canning fresh vegetables from her garden, sewing, fishing with the family, baking, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Surviving family members include her eldest son, Keith Hillius of San Francisco, CA; one son in-law, Stacy Block of Newcastle, WY; eight grandchildren, Antonio, Kristy, Daniel, Lacey, Andrea, Lindsey, Megan, and Matthew; and seven great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben on December 10, 2002, her son, Stephen Wayne Hillius on September, 24, 2006 her son, Michael John Hillius on June 19, 2001, and her daughter, Debbie Block on August 9, 1998.
