(Hill) Campbell died on Saturday, May 22 at the Wesley Park Center, (Garden View) Home in Newton, where she had been residing for the past month. A Memorial Service remembering Mary's life will be held in Coon Rapids at a later date to be announced by the family. Mary M. Campbell, daughter of Frank and Hazel (Bryant) Hill, was born on October 25, 1915, in Newton. After graduation from Newton High school, Mary attended and graduated from Iowa State College, Ames. She then completed a Degree in Dietetics at Indiana University in Indianapolis. Following employment at the Dixon Public Hospital, (Dixon, IL) as a Dietitian, Mary returned to Newton and married her college sweetheart, Maurice A. Campbell, on December 29, 1939. Maurice and Mary lived in Carroll where Maurice was a County Extension Agent. Their twin children, Jim and Nancy, were born in Carroll. The family moved to Fort Dodge when Maurice became Webster County Extension Agent. Their son, Tom was born in Fort Dodge. The family moved to Coon Rapids in 1946 when Maurice became a member of the Production Team at the Garst & Thomas Pioneer Seed Corn Company. Mary was first a homemaker, but also an interested citizen of the community. She was a member of the Library Board for many years working on the planning of the present Library in Coon Rapids. She was vitally interested in her Church, its Sunday School and the United Methodist Women's organizations and an especially-dedicated volunteer in the Coon Rapids Elementary School. Mary dedicated several decades of her life reading and tape-recording Books for the Iowa Department for the Blind - especially Graduate College level Textbooks. The P.E.O. Sisterhood was an important part of her life as were the Coon Rapids Federated Club and the Rural Garden Club. Maurice and Mary were long-time members of The Discussion Club. Mary is survived by her daughter Nancy (Kent) of Rock Island, IL; son James (Jan) of Council Bluffs; a sister Sarah (Hill) Campbell of Clarinda and a sister-in-law Martha Hill of Newton. She was very proud of her five grandchildren: Greg (Marilyn) Cornish, Grenoble, France; Mark (Julie) Cornish, Davenport; Stephanie (Bruce) Weitzman, Glenside, PA; Elizabeth (Stephen) Thoresen, San Diego, CA and Jim (Julie) Campbell of Aurora, Colorado. Her eight great-grandchildren: Grant and Emily Cornish, Daphne, Ian and Angus Cornish, Jacob and Katie Weitzman and Cody Campbell have brought her continued joy. And —nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and her many special friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Maurice, and her son Paul Thomas Campbell, as well as her parents, three brothers (William, James and Thomas); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
