Description	:	Mary Margaret Thatcher was born December 30, 1925 in a farm house East of Sewal to Homer and Myrtle Michael where she lived on her grandfather's farm for 8 years before moving as a result of the depression west of Promise City. Mary had an older brother Don Hugh Michael born November 29, 1922. She attended school at Pleasant Hill in South Fork Township walking to school about one quarter mile each way. Mary had an older brother Don Hugh Michael born November 29, 1922. She attended school at Pleasant Hill in South Fork Township walking to school about one quarter mile each way. She attended Pleasant Hill for about three years after which she moved to north of Promise City where she attended school until graduation from Promise City High School in 1943. It was during this time she met her future husband to be Wilbur Thatcher. After graduation Mary worked for Neely Manufacturing and Floyd Roberts Real Estate. Mary was wed to Wilbur Thatcher July 5, 1945 in the Seymour, IA Methodist parsonage while he was on a one day leave from the Army returning to duty the very next day. Wilbur and Mary were married for 66 years. Mary later moved to the Quad Cities while Wilbur was in the Army to work for Harned Von Maur until Wilbur's return. Upon Wilbur's return from the Army, Mary moved back to Wayne County where they rented a farm near Seymour for a year. They later bought a farm in Benton Township in the spring of 1948 and stayed until 1995 after which they moved to Corydon. Mary had two sons Steven Michael born July 3, 1948 and Douglas Randal born January 25, 1954, both born in Centerville, Iowa at St. Joseph Hospital. Mary later worked at the East Side Grocery for several years before working for Thatcher Implement as a bookkeeper from 1964 to 1978. Mary was an active member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ for many years becoming later in life a member of the Corydon Methodist Church. She was a member of the Corydon Ladies Legion Auxiliary. She loved life on the farm with her trees, flowers and birds. Red roses in particular were her favorite as well as the favorite of others as for several years people would drive by on Sunday afternoons just to admire them. Mary loved her family and supported hers sons while they were growing up in activities such as 4-H, Christmas tree farming, and church activities. She also made sure that the family spent time together with family night activities, going to movies once a month, picnics and hiking. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Myrtle Michael, brother Don and his wife Harriet Michael and her son Steven Thatcher. Survivors are her son Douglas Thatcher and his wife Jan of LaGrange, KY, daughter in-law Debbie Thatcher of Poplar Bluff, MO, grandchildren Monica and husband Byron Haynes, of Oakland, TN, Brian Thatcher and wife Jessie of Louisville, KY, Lindsay and husband Ryan Geib of Crestwood, KY; and great grandchildren Avonlea, Violet and Thatcher Haynes of Oakland, TN and Grayson Geib of Crestwood, KY.
