Peg was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, the only child of William Holdridge Postill and Cora Pearl Simon. She married Dr. Edwin Harold (Ed) Matzen, agricultural economist, and enjoyed 47 years of marriage before his death in 1990. She is survived by two children, a son, Martin William Matzen (wife, Karen Lucia Davis), and, a daughter, Mary Marlene (Matty) Matzen (divorced, Robert Lee Nothstein); a grandson, Eric Andrew Matzen (mother, Elaine Ceccarelli Matzen: wife, Katie Wiggins Matzen); and step-granddaughters Julia Davis (husband, Michael Loeb) and daughter, Alma; and, Ashleigh Donovan (husband, Michael), daughters, Bailey and Paige, and, son, Mike. Peg also leaves many friends and acquaintances at her home of almost 20 years, Asbury Methodist Village. Peg graduated from the Indiana Business College in Lafayette, Indiana where she enjoyed membership in the Sigma Phi Gamma sorority. Following, she was employed by the Purdue University where she met and married Ed. She never ceased to self-educate, demonstrating a natural aptitude for writing and editing. She reentered the work force in 1960 and lived out her career at the Naval Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, Behavioral Science and Hyperbaric Medicine Departments. She was privileged to serve as assistant editor of the new journal, "Undersea Biomedical Research," and co-edited two books for international publication. She served as President, American Medical Writers Association, Mid–Atlantic Chapter 1978-79, and, was listed in "Who's Who of American Women," 1981-83. Following Ed's death, she found her identity as a widow at the Chevy Chase Methodist Church where she served in the Stephen Ministry and shared in Bible study. Peg's interests included reading, theatre, politics and "affairs of state," computer technology, and "keeping up with the world." She had been an avid square dancer and could still remember the kick of the skirt and turn of the toe. The Celebration of Peg's Life will be held November 10, at the Asbury Guild Memorial Chapel, Gaithersburg, MD. Interment with her husband will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Condolences will be received at 419 Russell Avenue, Apt. 405, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877.
