When she was 19 years old, her mother passed away and she took over the task of rearing her 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She was married to Joseph Daeges in October of 1916 at St Mary's church at Portsmouth. Her husband preceded her in death 5 years ago. Although there were no children born to this union, the couple reared 2 boys, Leo Book now of Council Bluffs, and Joseph Kula, now a theological student in St Mary's seminary at Baltimore, Md. Other survivors are 5 brothers, Matt Sondag of Council Bluffs, John Sondag of Dunlap, Joseph Sondag of Portsmouth, Mike Sondag of Shenandoah, and Theodore Sondag of Des Moines. Also 2 sisters, Mrs M E Leinen (Annie) and Amelia Sondag of Portsmouth. A sister, Susan, preceded her in death 9 years ago. She was a member of the Rosary society and the Earling court of the Catholic Daughters of America. Last rites were held at St Mary's church at Portsmouth with her nephew Father Joseph Sondag as celebrant for the solemn requim high mass. Others officiating were Father N A Gaul, deacon; Joseph Kula, sub-deacon; and Father Jacob Weiss, master of ceremonies. Burial was in St Mary's cemetery. Eight nephews served as pallbearers. They were Michael T Leinen, Paul Leinen, Ted Sondag, Peter Sondag, Don Sondag, Edward A Rosenthal, Leonard Sondag and John Sondag.
