Smith, who died very suddenly Saturday evening at her home on Eighth and Avenue E, from a stroke of apoplexy suffered a couple of hours before, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 from the Methodist church. The services were conducted by her pastor Rev. Jackson Giddens and former pastor Rev. R. M. Shipman, now of Ames. The body was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery. The deceased, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lew Williams, was born on a farm near here July 11, 1873, grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage to Oscar Smith December 22, 1897. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, those surviving being Marvin C., Lewis P., Vernon O., and Bernice. Three others, Ervin, Lola May and Orville Ray died in infancy. The family home has been in Nevada since their marriage and here she has lived as a kind and loving wife and mother, as well as daughter and sister and valued neighbor; ever mindful of the needs and wishes of her family and others around her and ready to do full well her duties in life. Besides the husband and four sons she leaves her aged father and four brothers and one sister. The brothers are Walter, George and James Williams of Nevada township, Charles Williams of Nevada and the sister is Mrs. Ella Steward of Churdan. Mrs. Smith was a member of the local Woodman Circle and of the W. R. C. She was active in each and the members of the order attended in a body. While Mrs. Smith had ben more or less of an invalid for some time and had recently been through the Mayo clinic at Rochester, where the husband was advised that her condition was serious, she had been feeling quite well during the past few days and the evening of her death, she spoke of accompanying her husband on his usual Saturday evening trip up town. Shortly afterwards the fatal stroke came. At her bedside when she died were her husband and younger sons, Vernon and Bernice. The son, Lewis, was in Illinois on a visit but arrived home Sunday evening, while the son, Marvin, his wife and little son hastened here from their home at Clinton.
