Description	:	Mary "Marjorie" Cooper Walls, age 91, was born on January 22, 1925 in Morgan County, TN., and lived most of her life in Oliver Springs, TN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Marjorie graduated Salutatorian of the 1943 class of Oakdale High School where she was co-captain of the basketball team and an all district player. She went on to successfully complete an internship in engineering at the University of Tennessee through the Atomic Energy Commission. Read More	Mary "Marjorie" Cooper Walls, age 91, was born on January 22, 1925 in Morgan County, TN., and lived most of her life in Oliver Springs, TN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Marjorie graduated Salutatorian of the 1943 class of Oakdale High School where she was co-captain of the basketball team and an all district player. She went on to successfully complete an internship in engineering at the University of Tennessee through the Atomic Energy Commission. She hired in with Clinton Engineering Works at the Y-12 plant as a "Calutron Girl" in 1944. At the end of WWII she married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Walls in February of 1946. She became the loving mother of three children, and a co-partner in her husband's coal mining operations. Marjorie was a 65 year member of First Baptist Church of Oliver Springs serving in many roles in WMU, Girls Auxiliary, Sunday School teacher and in the choir with a perfect alto voice. She was also active in her children's education as a perpetual home room mother and was like a second mom to her children's friends, Steve, Alan, Cleston, Gayle, Judy, Martha Lynn, Donna, Tanyia, and Phyllis. She was an accomplished bowler and a self taught golfer. She and Maurice loved traveling across the United States and took overseas trips to Europe, Hong Kong, and mainland China. She was an avid "In Your Face" Lady Vols Basketball and UT football fan. She was also an accomplished gardener, with a special interest in wild flowers, wonderful cook, an excellent seamstress and a rabid cross word puzzler. Her love of music of many types resulted in a profound influence on her children's interest. Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother and perfect mother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Dora (Stephens) Cooper, husband, Maurice, daughter-in-law, Patricia (Fox) Walls, brothers-in-law, Wade Butcher, Reid Walls, and Bill Mendell, sisters-in-law, Nova Lee Mendell and Irene Walls. Marjorie is survived by her son, Mike Walls, daughters, Mary Martha (Scott) Brackett and Michelle (Chris) Jones, grandchildren, Bill Brackett, Mallory (Colin) Jones Walls and Aaron Jones, sisters, Anita Butcher, Mildred Headden (L.G.), brother, Kenneth Cooper (Reba), many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jean, Peggy, Wanda and Marion. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caretakers and staff from the Courtyards at Briarcliff in Oak Ridge for their loving care for Marjorie. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 7, 2016 between the hours of 11:00-1:00 pm at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with a funeral service at 1:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Tony Rutherford officiating. A graveside service will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. The family has requested that memorial donations can be made to the Pat Summitt Foundation at www.patsummitt.org and to the Patricia Fox Walls Nursing Scholarship at the University of Tennessee School of Nursing 1200 Volunteer Blvd. Knoxville, TN 37996.
