Description	:	Mary was born in Yorkshire, England. She married Harry Pratt on February 14, 1896. In March 1907, Harry left Leeds, England and worked his way across on a cattle boat arriving in Halifax in April and continued his journey west to Innisfail. He worked and saved enough money to send for his wife and three daughters, Lizzie, Ruth and Mabel, and they arrived in Canada in September. Read More	Mary was born in Yorkshire, England. She married Harry Pratt on February 14, 1896. In March 1907, Harry left Leeds, England and worked his way across on a cattle boat arriving in Halifax in April and continued his journey west to Innisfail. He worked and saved enough money to send for his wife and three daughters, Lizzie, Ruth and Mabel, and they arrived in Canada in September. The following year a daughter Margaret (Madge) was born, and in January 1909 their eldest daughter Lizzie was stricken with spinal meningitis and died. The Pratts then decided to try farming around Innisfail, taking a homestead in the New Hill district in 1912. As a means of clearing the land and also for a few odd dollars for grocery money, Harry cut fire wood each winter for the Markerville Creamery. He also cut, split and piled the wood in sixteen inch lengths for the schools. In August 1920, Harry suffered a sunstroke. Pneumonia followed and in these early times with no telephones or ready communication, he died. Harry was buried in the Innisfail cemetery where Lizzie had been buried previously. After the farm was sold, Mrs. Pratt continued to live in the New Hill district with her daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Milton Roffey), Mabel (Mrs. Earl Donnelly) and Madge (Mrs. Harvey Berry). She lived to the age of 94 years, and was laid to rest beside her husband Harry and daughter Lizzie. From Grub-Ax to Grain, by the Spruceview Area Historical Society.
