Mrs. Donovan had enjoyed good health until her last illness. She was a woman of deep religious nature and attended mass regularly until a few months ago. Mrs. Donovan was born on a farm in Garryowen on July 29, 1857, as Miss Mary McLaughlin, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin, pioneer residents of this community. She was married to Timothy Donovan at St. Patrick’s church, North Garryowen. They resided on a farm thereafter, where they had lived ever since. Mr. Donovan preceded her in death several years ago. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. James Burke, Dubuque, Mrs. Leo Shannahan [sic], Garryowen, Alice and Theresa, at home, two sons, Joseph and Edward, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Dougherty of Rockford, Ill.; and Mrs. Theresa Curoe, Bernard, three grandchildren also survive. Besides her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Patrick Brady and Mrs. John Finn, and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday morning from the home to St. Patrick’s church, Garryowen, at 9:30 o’clock. Rev. [I.?] F. Malone, pastor, officiated at the requiem mass and preached the funeral sermon. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Malone presiding at the graveside services. The pall bearers were Vince Donovan, Steve Brady, William Curoe, Patrick Ahern, James Donovan, Alfred Brady, Harold Curoe and Jerry Ahern, all nephews of the deceased.
