Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Mary Mathern was born April 8, 1913, in McIntosh County near Wishek, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Roehrich) Mathern. Mary Mathern was born April 8, 1913, in McIntosh County near Wishek, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Roehrich) Mathern. She was raised and educated in rural schools in Wishek. On May 25, 1936, she married Jacob Ell. They farmed in Linton until 1952, then moved into Linton. In 1957 they moved to Bismarck. Mary worked at St. Vincent's Care Center and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. She was an active member of St. Anne's Parish and Christian Mothers Association. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother to all her children. Mary was a great cook and will always be remembered for her rhubarb pie. Mary was a resident at St. Vincent's since Nov. 2, 1993. Mary is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Frank Jacob, Linton, and Rose and Del Jose, Battle Lake, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leo and Sally (Kelsch) Ell, Oakes, and Mathew and Denise Ell, Boise, Idaho; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Katherine Werner, Elizabeth Vetter, Magdeline Salhus and Pauline and Alfred Ell; 20 grandchildren, Ken, Edward and Gerard Jacob, Rita Mossett, Mary Dusek, Lucy Peterson, Rick, Kerry and Mark Ell, Deborah Krause, Jeff and Sayle Ward, Julie Kimmel, Jenny Church, Michelle Merritt, Jarame Ell, Jami Cureton, Suzanna Smith, April Jose Kral and Rebecca Jose; and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Ell, in 1999; one daughter, Pauline Ward; her parents; five brothers; two sisters; and four grandchildren.
