Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Paul Fohs officiating. Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington. ARLINGTON -- Mary Maxine Wegner, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kan., after a long illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Paul Fohs officiating. Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, at Oelwein, the daughter of James Dale and Bertha Mae (Meskell) Clarke. She graduated from Oelwein High School and attended Pitze's Beauty School. She worked as a beautician for several years. On Feb. 25, 1940, she married Theodore Emile Wegner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maynard. They lived in Arlington for 50 years. Ted retired in 1979 and they continued to live in Arlington. In 1995, Mary moved to Kansas City, Mo., after having several heart surgeries. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Arlington, serving faithfully for 50 years. She served in various capacities at the church. She was a member of the Republican Party and served on many committees. Mary loved playing cards, family reunions and being with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, a wonderful friend and a good neighbor. Survivors include three sons, Clarke (Ann) of Conyers, Ga., Richard (Kay) of Leawood, Kan., and Steve (Marilou) of Platte City, Mo.; six grandsons, Timothy Wegner of Westboro, Mass., Justin Connell of Athens, Ga., Nicholas Wegner of Lawrence, Kan., Jared Wegner of Scottsdale, Ariz., Zachary Wegner and Corby Wegner, both of Platte City; two granddaughters, Jackie Wegner of Philadelphia, Pa., and Leslie Connell of Athens. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Theodore who joined his heavenly Father on Aug. 24, 1987. A memorial fund has been established for the Arlington Library.
