Jonathan Cortese of Pomeroy officiating. She died Sunday of cancer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. She was born Aug. 29, 1924, to John A. and Florence Beale Dye at Central Ferry in Garfield County, Wash. All of her life, with the exception of six years, was spent in Garfield County. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1942 and from Washington State University at Pullman in 1946 with a degree in music education. She married James A. Scott June 16, 1946, at Pomeroy after he returned from service in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. They lived at Pullman for two years, where she worked until he graduated in 1948. Since that time they lived and farmed in Garfield County near Pomeroy. In 1960 they built a wheat and barley seed conditioning business, which is still in operation. She was secretary and treasurer for Scott Farms until three months ago. She was an organist and pianist and served as church organist for Pomeroy United Methodist Church for almost 50 years. For many years she also taught piano and organ lessons. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kappa Kappa Gamma, WSU Alumni Association, the P.E.O. Chapter FN, the Washington Crop Improvement Association, the Washington State Association of Wheat Growers and the Washington Flying Farmers. For the past 20 years she and her husband traveled over a large part of North America in their private plane. They also flew extensively in Mexico and once into Guatemala. Many of the trips were with the Flying Farmers. She was an avid skier and golfer and a member of Pomeroy Golf Association. She liked participating in outdoors activities like fishing, hunting and camping with her family. Earlier in her life, she served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and a Campfire Girl leader for several years. Survivors include her husband, James A. Scott of Pomeroy; one son, Gregory J. Scott of Pomeroy; two daughters, Janice Mathison of Wenatchee and Nancy Scott of Salinas, Calif.; one sister, Eleanor Duckworth of Pomeroy; and eight grandchildren. One son, Neil Scott, and one brother, Robert Dye, died previously. Richardson-Brown Funeral Home at Pomeroy is making the arrangements.
