Description	:	Maxine was born just six years after the end of WWI, four years after the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and was just five years old when the stock market crashed in 1929 and the Great Depression started. Read More	Maxine was born just six years after the end of WWI, four years after the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and was just five years old when the stock market crashed in 1929 and the Great Depression started. She lived through the severe droughts of the early 1930’s and the “black blizzards” that devastated her family’s farm…and yet, she remembered those years as some of the best of her life! She loved being a member of a large family and has related so many stories of their adventures! The children were all expected to share in the many, and seemingly unending chores on a farm: weeding, milking, egg gathering, planting, plowing, herding, feeding and maintaining all the animals. It was a daunting amount of work, made possible by love and commitment to the family’s survival! She went on to enjoy her high school years, sometimes claiming she spent a bit more time on having fun than with her books, but graduated nonetheless, the first in her family to receive a high school diploma. She met a very cute guy whose family moved onto the farm just the down the road from her family’s: the Krell family! And with 4 wonderful kids: Vincent, Patty, Shirley and Carole! She and Vincent began to date and, as they say, the rest is history! They married in 1945 and began a life rich in laughter, adventure, hard work and love! Vincent tried his hand at a number of enterprises over the years, including a short stint as a restaurant entrepreneur! But, his heart seemed most aligned with the freedom of a traveling sales rep and there he landed for many years. On the home front, Maxine worked hard to provide a rich and loving home for their daughters, Dianne and Linda. She was a wonderful chef in the kitchen (her potato salad and oven baked ribs come to mind!), a seamstress who could create beautiful dance dresses, an excellent bridge player for those afternoon hours when the girls were in school, and a seriously attentive and compassionate friend to so many who were lucky enough to know her! She was also very disciplined in her personal life: checkbooks were balanced to the penny, thank you notes were sent, her bed was always made to perfection, I might add, and she made sure, as she got older, that she maintained an exercise regimen that kept her moving! She also enjoyed reading and was almost never without a book in progress! She loved to garden and her balconies and yards were always filled with flowers that were deadheaded on time and watered with care! Wave petunias spilled over the edges of whiskey barrels, dragon wing begonias loomed lush and beautiful from the pots she filled with care. Inside, there was often a bouquet from Costco or HyVee filling a vase of two…and heaven forbid those flowers didn’t perform as expected: otherwise, back they would go! As we reflect on her life’s journey, we will share many amusing, sometimes hilarious moments with Maxine, and she was certainly up for a laugh! In the end, perhaps her most enduring legacy will be the nurturing love for all who came to be a member of her family or a friend. Memorial visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls on Friday, January 17th, from 5:30-7:30 PM. Her funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, January 18th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2109 S. 5th Avenue.
