Description	:	Mary's grandmother was Annie McGregor of Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Scotland. Her parents were Donald McPhee and Annie McGillvary. They lived on the Isle of Mull, Argyle County off the west coast Scotland. It is believed the McPhee family came from the town of Tobermory, Mull. Another daughter was born and died, she was buried at sea.- name unknown. After arriving in Canada they settled at or near Mount Forest Ont. In 1850 they went down the Saugeen River to Bruce County where many of the family still remain. After arriving in Canada there were three children born to Annie and Donald who did not live. Then they had four more daughters all born at Saugeen Ont., Annie, Margaret, Mary and Isabelle. Mary McPhee was one of the first pioneer children born in Saugeen Township, Ontario. On 28 Dec. 1876, she married Theophilus Kelly. She bore 4 sons and 8 daughters. Their children were all born in Saugeen, ON. She contributed several published articles on her early life in Canada. Mrs. Theophilus Kelly died in her 96th year, story was that she went out to chop wood, got tired and went to rest. OBIT: Mrs. T. Kelly Passes Away In 96th Year There passed away on Friday, March 16, after a brief illness, the last member of one of Saugeen's pioneer families in the person of Mrs. Theo. Kelly, in her 96th year. 18 Born Mary McPhee, April 2nd, 1855, on con. 6, Saugeen, she was the daughter of Annie McGillivray and Donald McPhee who a short time previously had arrived in Canada from Tobermory, in the Island of Mull, Scotland. At the age of two years she moved with her family to con. 12, Bruce, receiving her education in S.S. No. 13. At the time of her marriage to Theophilus Kelly, on Dec. 28, 1876, she returned to Saugeen where she lived the remainder of her days. To this union were born 12 children, six of whom survive to mourn the passing of a wonderful mother, and are (Margaret) Mrs. Hopkins of B.C., Charles and William of Saugeen, (Anne) Mrs, J. E. Johnston of Detroit, (May) Mrs. G, Osborne and (Elvina) Mrs. Milton Thede of Port Elgin,. Also 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Her husband pre-deceased her in 1906. She had a deeply devout Christian character, and took a very active part in all phases of church work as long as her health permitted. No appeal for food, clothing or the work of her hands was ever turned from her door. She gave unsparingly to every call and her many deeds of neighborly and Christian kindness will live long in the hearts of a wide circle of friends. For years she was a member of the Presbyterian church and later of the St. Andrews United Church of Canada and a lifetime member of the W.M.S. The funeral was held from the Davey Funeral Home in Port, Elgin to Sanctuary Park Chapel on Monday March 19th, (1951) at 2.30 pm. Four of the grandsons were flower bearers. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. H. Martin assisted by Rev. C. N. Paddon, a former pastor and friend. Port Elgin Times, Mar 21, 1951.
