Description	:	OBITUARY : MARY MELVINA SEE was born in Mason County, W. Va., November 15, 1815. She was united in marriage to Jas. Smith May 7, 1835. To this union were born twelve children, eight of whom are living, J. W., I. N. Smith, Melissa J. Jacques, J. T., Geo. W., S. V., O. C. Smith and Mollie F. Balloch of Washington City. They moved to Iowa and settled in Wayne County, April 19,1853. She was converted at the age of 14 and united with the M. E.church, bringing her membership with her to her Iowa home. To this union were born twelve children, eight of whom are living, J. W., I. N. Smith, Melissa J. Jacques, J. T., Geo. W., S. V., O. C. Smith and Mollie F. Balloch of Washington City. They moved to Iowa and settled in Wayne County, April 19,1853. She was converted at the age of 14 and united with the M. E.church, bringing her membership with her to her Iowa home. The records of the Allerton M. E. church show that her name was transferred to this church at an early date in the church history. She lived a consistent Christian through the years of a long life. Her life was marked with a wonderful fidelity to her duty as a wife and mother. Her vitality was more than usual. It was a remarkable thing that after such a busy life she should attain to such an age, having reached almost a century of years. She passed away July 28, 1908, aged 92 years, 8 months and 13 days. Her funeral was held from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Melissa Jacques, Thursday, July 30th at 4 p.m., conducted by her pastor, H. G. Pittenger, and the remains laid to rest in the Allerton cemetery. Mrs. Melvina Lee See was born in Mason County, West Virginia, November 1, 1815, where she grew to womanhood and was married to James Smith. She with her husband and family moved and settled in Wayne County, Iowa, April 19, 1853. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are living; J. W., Melissa Jacques, J. T., George W., S. V., O. C. and Mollie F. Ballock of Washington D.C. Grandma Smith was converted at the age of 14 and was a devoted member of the M.E. church and brought her membership with her to Iowa and the records of the Allerton M.E. church show her early union with the church. She lived a notable Christian, wife and mother with always a kindly word for both young and old. She was a special favorite of all who had the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with Grandma Smith. In fact her life has been a benefactor to her family and all who needed her tender care. She was a good woman of more than ordinary vitality and lead a long and useful life and at the age of 93 years she closed her eyes in the heaven of rest, July 28th, but the memory of her kindness and devotion for her family and friends will ever remain with those who knew her. Services were conducted by Rev. Pittinger and the remains cared for by undertaker Chase who saw our old friend at rest in the Allerton Cemetery.
