She spent most of her life on the family farm where she was devoted to raising her children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Henry Van Ellen and Henry Meinders, an infant son, Duane Wayne; two sisters, Hannah Kennedy and Esther Meyer; four brothers, Sam, Anton, George Junior Meyer; and an infant brother, Harm and an infant great-granddaughter, Rebekah Wilkinson. Mary is survived by her husband, James Smith of Parkersburg; five children, Harriet Finer and her husband, Eldon, of Clear Lake, Iowa; Jean Brown and her husband, Robert of Forest Ontario, Canada; Lloyd Van Ellen of Waverly, Iowa; Judy Meyst and her husband, Charles of Southfield, Michigan; Robert Meinders and his wife, Nancy, of Aplington, Iowa; two step-children, Elmer Smith and his wife, Anna, of Tampa, Florida; Kenneth Smith and his wife, Donnis, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild will be born in December; three sisters, Minnie Meyer of St. Paul, Minnesota; Lena Swieter of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Pearl Neilson and her husband, Thomas, of Royal Oak, Michigan, two brothers, Harm Meyer and his wife, Maxine, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and A. J. Meyer and his wife, Helen, of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 15 at Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington with Mr. Robert Orr officiating Casketbearers were Jeff Finer, Robert Brown III, Eric Meinders, Shawn Pittenger, Michael Peters, Jack Toppin, David Van Ellen and Jordan Peters Interment was in Maynes Grove Cemetery, rural Franklin County with Schwartz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
