Description	:	RALEIGH - Mary Miller Bruce passed away Dec. 31, 2002. Mrs. Bruce was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late William Gray Miller Sr. and Jennie Atkinson Miller, of Siloam. She was raised in Winston-Salem. She graduated from Reynolds High School and attended UNC Greensboro. She married L.C. Bruce of Winston-Salem on June 14, 1941. Mrs. Bruce was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late William Gray Miller Sr. and Jennie Atkinson Miller, of Siloam. She was raised in Winston-Salem. She graduated from Reynolds High School and attended UNC Greensboro. She married L.C. Bruce of Winston-Salem on June 14, 1941. The couple lived in Elizabeth City during the war years before returning to Winston-Salem. They moved to Slier City in 1954 and to Raleigh in 1960. In addition to being a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Bruce worked as a legal secretary, in the radio business, and from 1963 to 1983, as office administrator of the Raleigh Office of Japan Tobacco Inc. She was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church and was active in the Raleigh Woman's Club. She was a member of the N.C. World Trade Association and served on its board of directors. She was an avid gardener and bridge player. She was preceded in death in 1997 by Mr. Bruce; and her brothers, William Gray Miller Jr. of Winston-Salem and Joe Henry Miller of Claremont, Calif. She is survived by her two sisters, Lillian Miller of Winston-Salem and Rebecca Allanach of Marion. She is also survived by her five children, Robert Michael Bruce of Danbury, Dennis Luther Bruce of Spartanburg, S.C., Branson Key Bruce of Winston-Salem, Mary Virginia Bruce Scott of Richmond, Va., and John Stuart Bruce of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren, Samantha Bruce McGahey of Cary, Michael Bruce II and Quinevere Bruce of Dunedin, Fla., Brian Bruce of Chicago, Ill., Alison Bruce of Charleston, S.C., Elizabeth and Connor Bruce of Winston-Salem and Lillian, Bruce and Malcolm Scott of Richmond, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Stuart McGahey of Cary. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 3, 2003, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh. The family will receive visitors immediately after at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the donor's chosen charity. Published in Winston-Salem Journal on January 3, 2003
