Description	:	Mary Moreton was born c1758 in Warwickshire England. She is understood to have married John Chatterton of Manchester in Oct 1780 at Liverpool, Lancashire. As Mary Chatterton, more often recorded as Chadderton, she was convicted at Lancaster assizes 24 March 1788 for theft of various (diverse) articles from the house of E. Rowle of Manchester. At trial she was described as the wife of John Chadderton, a labourer of Manchester. Read More	Mary Moreton was born c1758 in Warwickshire England. She is understood to have married John Chatterton of Manchester in Oct 1780 at Liverpool, Lancashire. As Mary Chatterton, more often recorded as Chadderton, she was convicted at Lancaster assizes 24 March 1788 for theft of various (diverse) articles from the house of E. Rowle of Manchester. At trial she was described as the wife of John Chadderton, a labourer of Manchester. She was sentenced to death at the 24 March 1788 Lancaster Assizes but later reprieved to transportation for seven years. Records of Lancaster Castle gaol, where she was imprisoned, noted that Mary had been committed on 11 November 1787, age given as 29, and was a native of Coventry, Warwickshire. There were no known children of the marriage of John and Mary Chatterton. However, at St Marys Priory Church, located near Lancaster Castle was baptised a girl - Charlotte Chatterton on 2 Dec 1789. She was recorded as an illegitimate daughter of Mary Chatterton or Chaderton of Lancaster Castle. Mary was initially scheduled to be transported with the 2nd fleet to NSW aboard Neptune but was somehow delayed and her transportation was eventually aboard Mary Ann, first convict transport of the 3rd Fleet, arriving in NSW July 1791. We might consider that the delay was due to her petition for the young daughter to accompany her. According to David Collins' Account of the English Colony of NSW, Mary Ann's arrival 9 July 1791 in addition to 141 female convicts, also included six children and one free woman. On 22 Oct 1791 newly arrived convict Mary Chadderton was married to William Adams, a convict of Scarborough 1790 who had been pardoned to enlist the NSW Corps Feb 1793 in Sydney. Mary's daughter Charlotte was accepted as step daughter of Adams, and in all subsequent records of her in the colony she used the name Charlotte Adams. There were 3 daughters born to the marriage of William and Mary Adams. Sarah (1792-1801), Elizabeth (b.1795) and Kezia (1798-1869). William Adams died in 1798, and was buried 4 Feb 1798 at the Old Sydney Burial Ground. Mary Adams, aged 48 married Serjeant William Baker of the NSW Veteran Company 11 Aug 1814. Baker was recorded in the 1814 muster as Free and a Shoemaker who arrived in NSW per Sugar Cane 1793. Wm Baker died Apr 1824, aged 54 and was buried 25 Apr 1824 St. Johns Parramatta. After Baker's death Mary married former First Fleet Marine Benjamin Cusley (30 Aug 1824, Windsor) and was recorded in the 1828 muster at Wilberforce as Mary Cusely, free by servitude, aged 60, arrived per Mary Ann 1791. Benjamin Cusely died Jun 1845 at Windsor. Mary's death was recorded as Mary Crutchley in Nov 1834 at Windsor, aged 76. She was buried 3 Nov 1834 at St Matthews, CofE Windsor.
