Mary Morton was born in Green county, Wisconsin, on November 26, 1859. With her parents she moved to Seward county, Nebraska, about the year 1872, where she grew to womanhood. John and Mary were the parents of William, Charles, Archie, and Earl. Mary Morton was born in Green county, Wisconsin, on November 26, 1859. With her parents she moved to Seward county, Nebraska, about the year 1872, where she grew to womanhood. On December 2, 1876, she was married to John Hand, and to this union there were born four sons, William Francis Hand, Charles Burdett Hand, Archie Delmer Hand and Earl Edgar Hand. Her husband died on June 25, 1902. She was married to Peter H. Tester, July 24, 1909, and departed this life at Seward, on August 9, 1924, aged sixty-four years, eight months and thirteen days, leaving surviving her, her husband, children, seven grand-children, and eight brothers and sisters, her brothers and sisters being Mrs. E.P. Williams of Wellington, Colorado; Mrs. C. Hackworth, of Seward; Mrs. Lowry Boyes, of Wray, Colorado; Urias Morton, of Wray, Colorado; Francis Morton, of Los Angeles, California; Thomas Morton of Seward; Charles Morton of Lexington, and Ira Morton of Missouri. Besides her husband, children and families, and her brothers and sisters, she leaves a host of friends and neighbors who mourn her death. Mrs. Tester was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church of Seward of which she was a faithful member, and from which she was buried in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery Sunday, August 10, by Rev. C.H. Miller, of College View. Mrs. Tester's christian character, sweet spirit and unselfish nature endeared her to all whose privilege it was to have known her and called her friend. Hers was a life of service to her home, her family, church and friends. A loving wife, mother and friend, she was beloved by all, and her passing leaves a vacancy keenly felt. "Weep not that her toil is over; Weep not that her race is run. God grant that we may rest as sweetly, When our work, like hers, is done."
