She was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 24, 1915, the first daughter of the Late Bernard S. and Julia Dickinson. She was predeceased by her husband, James T. She was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 24, 1915, the first daughter of the Late Bernard S. and Julia Dickinson. She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Todd, former Treasurer of Orange County and Treasurer of the Virginia Baptist Association. She is survived by her three children, Julia Todd Kappler and her husband, James, of Towson, Maryland, James Turnley Todd Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Gloucester, Virginia, and Charles Stapleton Todd and his wife, Barbara, of Orrington, Maine. Also surviving are her two sisters, Virginia Morgan of Front Royal, Virginia, and Norma Lee Walker of Midlothian, Virginia; and 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Orene graduated from Chancellor High School and attended Mary Washington College before her marriage to Jim in 1937. A wonderful housewife and mother, she was known as the ultimate hostess possessing exceptional culinary skills and abilities with flower decorations. She served as president of the Rapidan Garden Club and held state office in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A devout Christian, she served as the first female secretary of the Goshen Baptist Association and served many compacities with the Women's Missionary Union. During the last 10 years, she authored and published a book, "Dear Cousins" and a large manuscript describing the entire history of Chancellor High School. Funeral services and burial will be held at Wilderness Baptist Church, 9701 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, Virginia, 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, with Pastor Amos Healy officiating. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Wilderness Baptist Church, in memory of Orene D. Todd.
