Following the death of Mary Partridge's mother Hannah Seabury, Mary's father married of record at Duxbury on May 23, 1700 Mary, the widow of Wrestling Brewster, who died at Duxbury Jan. 1, 1696/97. Based on husband Jonathan Brewster's extant gravestone at present-day Scotland, Conn. (inscribed as "Bruster"), Jonathan was b. probably at Duxbury on or after Nov. 23, 1693, not prior to September 1685 as some writers claim. Jonathan's father Wrestling,3 Brewster was the grandson (Love,2 Elder William,1) of Elder William Brewster of the 1620 Mayflower passage. Jonathan Brewster and Mary Partridge had nine children, the first seven at Duxbury, Mass. and the last two of record at Windham, Conn.: • i. Hannah Brewster, b. circa 1711 and living in 1756 when her husband wrote his will at Norwich, Conn.; m. of record Nov. 6, 1728 at the Franklin, Conn. Cong. Ch. [also recorded in the Lebanon, Conn. VRs], John Barker 4th, s. of John Barker 3rd (John2, John1) and Hannah Eames, b. of record Jan. 3, 1704/5 at Marshfield, Mass. He wrote his will Sept. 5, 1756 at Norwich, Conn. in which he named his wife Hannah and son John as executors. Ten identified children either only baptized of record at the Franklin, Conn. Cong, Ch., or born of record at Norwich then baptized at the Franklin Cong. Ch. However, only eight children are named in his will. [1] • ii. Mary Brewster, b. on or after Aug. 10, 1712, d. Aug. 9, 1768 at Windham, Conn., Æ 56 (g.s.); m. 1) Feb. 14, 1733/34 of record at Windham, Reuben Lillie, s. of George Lillie, Jr. and Sarah Silsby, b. of record May 18, 1709 at Windham where he d. May 28, 1737. Two children of the family. She m. 2) Sept. 25, 1740 at Windham as his 1st wife, Jeremiah Bingham, s. of Dea. Nathaniel Bingham and Sarah Lobdell, b. Jan. 27, 1715/16 at Windham where he d. Sept. 4, 1784. Six children of the marriage. • iii. Capt. James Brewster, b. circa May 1715, d. Oct. 2, 1755 at Windham, Conn.; m. Mar 15, 1738/39 of record at Windham, Faith Ripley, dau. of David Ripley and Lydia Cary, b. May 6, 1722 of record at Windham. She reportedly d. Mar. 8, 1787 at Sharon, Conn. Seven children of the family. • iv. Peleg Brewster, b. Feb. 7, 1716/17, d. Apr. 2, 1801 at Canterbury, Conn., Æ 85 (g.s.); m. circa 1738, Sarah Smith, dau. of Nehemiah Smith and Dorothy Wheeler, b. July 14, 1719 and d. June 6, 1802. At least four children of the family. • v. Jerusha Brewster, b. Mar. 6, 1718/19, d. Sept. 22, 1795 at Windham, Conn.; m. of record June 4, 1741 at the Scotland Society Church at Windham, Zebulon Rudd, s. of Capt. Nathaniel Rudd and Rebecca Waldo, b. of record July 26, 1717 at Windham. Both died at or near Millerton, Dutchess County, NY (g.s.) Eight children recorded at Windham. • vi. Jonah Brewster, b. on or after June 4, 1720, d. June 3, 1750 at Windham, Conn., Æ 30 (g.s.); m. of record Jan. 25, 1743/44 at Windham, Joanna Waldo, dau. of Dea. Edward Waldo and Thankful Dimock (q.v.), b. of record Apr. 18, 1723 at Windham, d. Apr. 4, 1803 at Canterbury, Conn. as the widow of Lieut. Josiah Cleveland, Jr. Five children of the Brewster family. • vii. Sarah Brewster, b. circa 1725, d. Apr. 24, 1810 at Armenia, Dutchess, NY; m. of record Jan. 10, 1744/45 at Canterbury, Conn., Jehosaphat Holmes, Jr., s. of Jehosaphat Holmes and Sarah Waldo, b. June 13, 1721 at Pomfret, Conn. He d. May 22, 1789 at Armenia, NY. One known child b. of record Mar. 21, 1746/47 at Canterbury, Conn. • viii. Elijah Brewster, b. of record Mar. 12, 1730/31 at Windham, Conn.; d. testate and unm. between Apr. 24, 1755 (date of will) and July 14, 1755 (date of probate). His will names his brothers James and Peleg Brewster; his sisters Hannah Barker, Mary Bingham, Sarah Holmes and Jerusha Rudd; the children of his deceased brother Jonah; and his "brother" John Barker, to whom he gave "my blue Coat & Camlett Jackett & my best hat for reasons best known to myself." This will is further proof that sister Hannah (Brewster) Barker was still living in Apr. 1755. • ix. Jonathan Brewster, b. May 5, 1737 of record at Windham, Conn.; purportedly died young. [1] Some writers have adopted the misguided 1927 claim by Elizabeth Barker [The Barker Family: John of Duxbury, 1628 section beginning p. 235] that Hannah (Brewster) Barker died by mid-1732 and that her widower relocated to Plymouth, Mass. There on Dec. 10, 1732 he m. 2) Maria Cushman (Hannah Brewster's 2nd cousin), b. of record Feb. 16, 1706/7 at Duxbury, Mass. Per this cited work, Maria was made the mother of numerous of John Barker 4th's younger children b. of record or baptized in Conn. This claim has no basis in truth. The cited work was sloppily done, unsourced, with missing date clearly available to that author, known recorded children in the Barker family descent were not included, and numerous association errors are evident. On Oct. 4, 1741 John Barker 4th and his wife Hannah Brewster [Mrs. Hannah] were admitted members of the Franklin, Conn. Cong. Ch., followed on multiple dates by the baptism of six of their children [Ch. Recs.] In 1755 Hannah was named as living in her brother Elijah Brewster's will and in 1756 she and eldest son John were named executors of husband John Barker's will at Norwich, Conn.
