The Rev. George Heaps conducted the service. The Rev. Jonn Earl, president of Des Moines college and a close friend of the family, offered the prayer. Her nephews acted as pallbearers both at the home and at Linwood Park cemetery, where the body was laid to its last rest. Mary Peoples was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, May 28, 1833. She was married to Levi Colvin, September 18, 18--. They lived a short time in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, then came to Iowa, making this state their home until their deaths. The Peoples family settled in the southern part of this county in 1867. This country was new, had but very few settlers, and but raw prairie was to be seen on every hand, but these people set to with a will and success crowned their efforts. Peoples township was named in honor of the family. Mrs. Colvin had seven sisters, and one brother, the brother being killed in the war of the rebellion. Three sisters survive her to mourn the loss of Mrs. Colvin. The sisters are, Mrs. John Kearby and Mrs. Angeline Noland of this city and Mrs. Anna E. Beckett of Spencer, Iowa. Mrs. Colvin was converted and baptized into the Redstone Baptist church in Pennsylvania at the age of sixteen years and lived a consistent, honored member of that body. She was a charter member of the Peoples Baptist Church of this county, there being only one other charter member of this church at the time of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Colvin moved from their home in Peoples township eighteen years ago, making their home in Boonsboro. Mr. Colvin lived only two years after coming to this city. Last December Mrs. Colvin went to Hugo, Colo. to make her home. She met with a very painful accident, from which she never rallied and passed away June 10th.
