Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 5 Mar 1857 p3: "DEATHS---In this town [Dover], 31st ult. [no 31st in Feb.], Mrs. Polly, wife of Artemas Spaulding." Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 9 Apr 1857 p3: "DEATHS---In Dover, March 1, Polly, wife of Artemas Spaulding, aged 67 1/4 years. The life of Mrs. Spaulding was full of usefulness; her constant aim being to do good. She devoted unwearied attention, not only to the care of her family, but the sick and needy also shared her kindness. With a firm faith in God's impartial goodness, and calm resignation to His will, she bore her long and distressing sickness without repining; and as the close of life drew near, with quiet composure, she gave to her family the last parting advice, then resigning all earthly cares expressed a willingness to meet the approach of death. Thus peacefully she passed away 'to that land where the weary are at rest,' leaving an afflicted husband and nine children to lament the death of a good wife and mother."
