She was the daughter of William B. Scott and Christina (Sellers) Scott. She went by her middle name "Polly" and she was the third child of twelve that William and Christina had. Her brothers and sisters were- Sarah Ann (Scott) Bernard, Rosanna (Scott) Guilliams, James B. Scott, Michael Walters Scott, Nancy D. (Scott) Whitlow, Poebe (Scott) Kennett, Sanford W. Scott, Amos Scott, William Scott Jr, Elizabeth (Scott) Whitlow, and Hullum A. Scott. Polly marred Abraham Smith on February 27, 1816 in Rockingham County. Abraham Smith was the son of Henry Smith and Margaret (Cravens) Smith. He was born about 1790 in Rockingham County, Virginia. He was a merchant by trade. They had three daughters- Martha Smith, P.E.E. Smith, and Mary B. Smith. The family moved to Harrisonburg, in Rockingham County, Virginia in 1823. Polly passed away on November 19, 1832 and was buried in the Harrisonburg Methodist Church Cemetery, which is now the Community Mennonite Church. In the early part of the 20th Century the Church was bought by the Church of the Brethren and most of the graves in the Church cemetery were moved by relatives to other cemeteries. "Polly Smith" and 22 others were not moved, probably due to an inability to find family that would move them to new cemetery grave sites. They were placed into a crypt on the Church Grounds and single plaque bearing their names was erected. Their original gravestones have been lost. In the 1970's the Church as again sold and is now the Community Mennonite Church. On October 27, 2003, the contents of the Crypt and the plaque were moved to Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg. According to cemetery officials there was nothing to inter, only a few bits of wood and dust, long with the plaque. It is possible that the remains of the 23 people, including Polly were cremated and later scattered at Woodbine in lieu of a cemetery plot burial. After Polly's death, Abraham married Elizabeth Guinn on May 4, 1836 in Rockingham County, Virginia. They moved to Locust Dale in Madison County, Virginia and had five children- Catherine Smith, John Smith, Daniel P.H. Smith, Edward Smith and Abraham G. Smith. Abraham died about 1876 in Locust Dale and Elizabeth died sometime before 1880. Neither are located in historical records from 1880 and forward.
