Read More	Cascade Pioneer, August 23, 1917, page 4, column 5 Death of Miss Mary McLees ~ Many friends here were saddened by the announcement of the death of Miss Mary McLees, who died at the home of her parents in Monticello at 6 o'clock last Thursday morning August 16th. She was apparently in good health when she retired the night before, having recovered from the serious illness which attacked her early in the spring. The family was unaware of her extreme condition until she was called for breakfast. She had suffered an attack of heart failure and was in a precarious condition when discovered by the family. Medical and spiritual aid was summoned but she bad passed beyond earthly assistance, and death came at the hour mentioned. Miss McLees was the eldest daughter of Mr.and Mrs. John McLees and was born in Richland township, Jones county, May 29, 1876. Mae, as she was best known to her friends, spent her early lifetime upon the farm, but for ten years she kept house for Rev. Father John Fitzpatrick of Holy Family church, in Omaha, but later she gave up her position and acted us a nurse, which work she was obliged to relinquish on account of ill health and came to the home of her parents in Monticello last spring and remained there up to the time of her death. She was one possessed of the finest character and was respected and beloved by her family, and all who knew her. She was ambitious and energetic and sincerely admired for her many womanly qualities. Her death is a keen blow to her family and friends. She was adevout member of the Catholic church and crossed the shadowy line that separates life and eternity in possession of the faith that sustains and succors the wayfarer who observes unbrokenly the commandments of God and Church. The deceased is survived by her parents and three brothers and three sisters, who are John and Earl McLees, of Cascade; Mrs. Frank McDonald, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Jas. Waddick, of Monticello; George McLees, of Cedar Rapids and Miss Pearl McLees, who lives at home with her parents. The funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church in Monticello Saturday morning at 9:30, Rev. Geo. A. Hauck officiating. The remains were then brought to Cascade. The following Cascade friends acted as pallbearers: J. H. Devaney, W. J. O'Brien, F. J. Tallman, Robert Lowham, Richard Coyle, and George Dolphin. Compliments of Joseph Cahill
