Read More	Kansas Historical Society Microfilm Roll O124 The Onaga Herald March 18, 1948 Channel Mary Rhodes Bottom, eldest daughter of Wm. and Margaret Bottom, was born Sept. 27, 1869 in the Bucks Grove community and passed away Mar. 6, 1948 in Seneca at the age of 78 yrs., 5 mos. and 9 days. She lived in the Buck Grove community until her marriage to Arthur Hiram Channel of America City on Feb. 24, 1904, then going to America City where she spent the remainder of her life until the last few months when she had been with her daughter, Mrs. Albert McKee, in Seneca. To this union were born four children; Orpha Roberta, who passed away Dec. 23, 1918 at the age of 13 years; Hiram Wayne and Frank E. of the home, and Dorothy McKee of Seneca. Three step-children also survive, Cleo Frantz of Junction City, Delbert of Havensville and Roscoe of Lawrence, whom she loved and respected as her own. Early in life she was converted and united with the Methodist church and lived a very devout Christian life, always standing for the highest ideals. She was a kind and loving mother, and very devoted to her home and family. Her husband preceded her in death of Sept. 29, 1917. Besides her children, she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Hettie Blanka and Roberta Bottom of Havensville; one brother, Frank Bottom of Minnesota, 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Channel was especially fond of children and loved sacred hymns. In her declining years she took pleasure in listening to the sacred radio programs. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Seneca and burial in the family lot at America City cemetery. Rev. S. B. Parker conducted the service. Three songs were beautifully sung by Louis and Melba Slocum, Mrs. Jean Gongs and D. Edward Taylor, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Baldwin at the organ. Pall bearers were neighbors and friends, Roy Tolin, Henry McKee, Ross Manuel, Francis Ross, Willie Diggs and Cleaves Kirk. With deepest gratitude and appreciation that will long be remembered, we thank all for the many acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy during the illness and death of our mother.
