Odom, 79 OCT. 2, 1927-AUG. 13, 2007 MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruth Black Odom, 79, of Martinsburg, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Melinda Odom Staubs, Alexandria, Ala. Ruth was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Fayetteville, Tenn., the daughter of Bentley B. Black and Irene Willard Black. She attended school in Auburntown, Tenn., graduating high school in the class of 1946. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ward L. Odom; her sons, Ward Keith Odom and wife, Sarah, of Hudson, Ind.; Charles Craig Odom of Martinsburg and Marshall (Benny) Odom of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; daughters, Melinda Odom Staubs and her husband, Tony; and Catherine Lee Roberson and her husband, Jeff, of Centreville, Va.; and six grandchildren, Joey and Marrissa Odom, Jered Staubs, Virginia Odom, and Brooke and Cole Roberson; and three stepgrandchildren, Joshua, Phillip and Scott. Ruth was a beloved housekeeper and devoted her life to her family and friends. She was a member of Pikeside Housewive's League for the past 39 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Martinsburg, where she served as keeper of the nursery for almost 40 years. A graveside service will be at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at Odom Cemetery in Auburntown. Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Jennings and Ayers Chapel. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Martinsburg on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007. In lieu of flowers or donations to a charity, the family asks that she be remembered for the positive and cheerful person that she was and keep her memory alive in their thoughts and prayers.
