Description	:	Mary Shebeck was born in Washington county, Iowa, May 1, 1863 and in that county she grew to womanhood. On July 19, 1881 she was united in marriage to Wensel Soukup. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive her. They are J.M. Soukup of Riverside, Charles of Riverside, and Frank of Lone Tree. On son, William, died at the age of five years. Read More	Mary Shebeck was born in Washington county, Iowa, May 1, 1863 and in that county she grew to womanhood. On July 19, 1881 she was united in marriage to Wensel Soukup. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive her. They are J.M. Soukup of Riverside, Charles of Riverside, and Frank of Lone Tree. On son, William, died at the age of five years. In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Soukup moved to Lone Tree to make their home. During the past few years, Mrs. Soukup’s health has been poor, and on her 61st birthday, May 1st, 1924, she was stricken with peritonitis, and passed away about ten o clock a few days later, on Tuesday, May 6th. She leaves besides her children her husband, four sisters and one brother. The latter are Annie Novotne of Iowa City; Lizzie Beranek of Albert Lea, Minn.; Julia Bidlack of Davenport; Emma Menzer of Lone Tree; and Frank Shebek of Washington county. Mrs. Soukup was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. Mrs. Soukup was a kind and loving wife and patient mother. The home was the center of life’s nativities for her and it was to that organization that she devoted the most of her activities. She believed completely in the doctrine of honesty and insisted on its adoption in the home and elsewhere. She was considerate of others and tried always to lighten their worry and their care. Even in the hours of her most intense suffering she attempted to alleviate their anxiety by saying “I want nothing, I’m comfortable.” The funeral was held from the house last Thursday afternoon conducted by the Rev. C.E. Holycke of the Reformed church. Music was furnished by a quartette of ladies from the same church. Interment was made in the Lone Tree cemetery.
