She married Joseph Steinberger June 12, 1901 at Marshalltown. A lifelong resident of the Baxter community, she died at the age of 83 on Wednesday evening, January 29, 1964 at the Jasper County Home near Newton. Mary Sophia, in failing health for the past six months, had been a resident of the County Home for two weeks. She married Joseph Steinberger June 12, 1901 at Marshalltown. A lifelong resident of the Baxter community, she died at the age of 83 on Wednesday evening, January 29, 1964 at the Jasper County Home near Newton. Mary Sophia, in failing health for the past six months, had been a resident of the County Home for two weeks. Mrs. Steinberger was survived by four daughters, Vernie (Mrs. Charles) Tupper of Grundy Center, Dorothy (Mrs. Fred) Frahm of Newton, Mrs. Charlotte Johnson of Baxter, and Beulah (Mrs. Chester) Ghent of Baxter; two sons, James and Robert J. both of Newton; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lena McMahon of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1963; a daughter Iva; seven brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 1, at the Boyd Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter with the Rev. Robert Nickel, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church in Newton officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery at Baxter. Mrs. Donnell Deutsch and Mrs. Max Butler provided music for the services. Casket bearers were Leo Toedt, Howard Eddy, Bernard Moorman, LeRoy Krampe, J. A. Mackerman and Rupert Wastier. Flowers were arranged by Mrs. J. A. Mackerman and Mrs. Hale Nickell.
