Mary was born on June 12, 1914 in Hanford to Carlo and Maria Elizabeth Mora. Her parents had immigrated from Cavaso Del Tomba in northern Italy to Hanford in 1907; coming through Ellis Island. Mary was raised and educated in Hanford, graduating from Hanford High School in 1933. She was active with Hanford High School Women's Softball Team and following graduation she continued to play on the Hanford Women's Softball Team. All of this during the 1930s. Mary married Leonard L. Serpa. Mary was employed by Maccagno's Bakery for many years. Mary was a faithful member of St. Brigid Catholic Church and was also a member of the Hanford Sons of Italy Lodge since January 1965. Mary made her home in the same house in Hanford all of her life. She was a world traveler - having been to Italy, several other European countries such as England and Ireland, and China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Alaska, Africa and the Middle East. Mary was an avid reader and a very knowledgeable history buff. She was the family ravioli maker, always making them in time for Easter and Thanksgiving. She also taught the next two generations the "art of making raviolis." She was a great fox trot dancer and taught most of her nephews and nieces how to dance. Mary always voted because her parents came for the freedom of the USA. She is survived by a niece, Betty Wade Smith of Visalia; a nephew, Carl John Mora of Oregon and several great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlo and Maria; her siblings, John (Buck) Mora, Caerina King and Dominic (Mam) Mora and her nephews Carl Wade and Reginald Mora; and by her husband, Leonard. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m., Monday, at People's Funeral Chapel in Hanford. Mass of Christian Burial will at 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Hanford. Burial will be in the Hanford Cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to the Hanford Sons of Italy Lodge Scholarship Fund, 9550 6th Ave., Hanford, CA 93230
