Description	:	WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Mary Sue Bolden Scott, 89, died Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2012 at WFU Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 21, 1922 in Stokes County to David and Bessie Ashby Bolden. Her legacy will be forever lovingly remembered as she truly embodied the spirit of the virtuous women described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She enjoyed hard work: cooking for her family (and even delivering those meals to the tobacco fields), picking berries (where a requirement was that every bucket was full before leaving), firing the wood stove, cracking black walnuts and doing anything to help her children.... Read More	WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Mary Sue Bolden Scott, 89, died Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2012 at WFU Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 21, 1922 in Stokes County to David and Bessie Ashby Bolden. Her legacy will be forever lovingly remembered as she truly embodied the spirit of the virtuous women described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She enjoyed hard work: cooking for her family (and even delivering those meals to the tobacco fields), picking berries (where a requirement was that every bucket was full before leaving), firing the wood stove, cracking black walnuts and doing anything to help her children. Materialism and the things of this world mattered little to her as she was content with what she had and enjoyed life that way. She often said that if she could live in a little cabin in the woods, and grow a garden, she would be happy. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 31 years of service in February 2000 at 77 years old. Mrs. Scott was of the Baptist faith. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Burroughs Chapel with Rev. Ricky Craig and Rev. Billy Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Rierson Cemetery on Scott Farm Road in Walnut Cove. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jesse "Jess" Willard Scott; half sister, Helen Saunders, and half brothers, Melvin and Mallard Bolden. She is survived by five children, Wayne Scott and wife Carol Jean, Jesse "Fuzzy" Scott, Jr. and wife Charlotte, Dawn Scott Bowen and husband John, Norman Scott and wife Donna and Sally Scott Armstrong and husband Randy; 12 grandchildren, Cora Flinchum and husband Terry, Dr. Rosemary Sifford and husband Stephen, Janet Vance and husband Victor, Joanna Wilson and husband Eric, Hannah Shipton and husband Eric, Norman Thomas Scott, II and wife Wendi, Lucy Scott Love and husband Travis, Caroline Beam and husband Maxton, Wesley Bowen, Austin Armstrong and wife Jessica, Jessica "Jesse" Scott and Mary Scott; 16 great grandchildren, Rollins Vance, Damon Flinchum, Madison Sifford, Paden Flinchum, Salem Sifford, Wyatt Flinchum, Rynn Flinchum, Sara Beth Scott, Tatum Love, Norman Thomas "Trey" Scott, III, Kate Vance, Olivia Vance, Caleb Shipton, Annabelle Shipton, Paige Love and Sedona Sifford; four step granddaughters, Lisa Sells, Marsha Sizemore, Erica Marshall and Nicole Clark; eight step great grandchildren, Ethan Shipton, Charlie Mendenhall, Richard Mendenhall, Lorin Sizemore, Evan Sizemore, Hannah Marshall, Megan Sells and Leah Sells; sister, Geneva Fulp; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Larry Bolden and wife Nancy who visited on a weekly basis. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2012 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at her home. The family warmly regards those who cared for her, including Sylvia Parsons, Linda Hester, Carol Forrester and her primary care physician, Dr. Samuel Newsome and staff. In addition, the staff at Pioneer Community Hospital in Danbury and WFU Baptist Medical Center ICU and Palliative Care Units for their care and compassion. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made in memory of Mary Sue Scott to Wake Forest Baptist Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of the donor's choice.
