Edwards, nee Wingfield, died at her home near Foristell Friday, November 23, 1917. Her earthly career came to a close at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 1 day. She was born near Lynchburg, Va., April 22, 1842, as the daughter of John and Frances (Oglesby) Wingfield. She spent her girlhood days in her native state, and later came with her parents to the Foristell vicinity. She was married to Col. James F. Edwards of the Foristell community; September 30, 1869, and they became the parents of four children, one daughter and three sons. All of the sons preceded the mother to eternity, while the devoted companion of almost a half century and the only daughter, Mrs. Frank Meier, survive. She also leaves two brothers, William I. and J.S. Wingfield, and one sister, Mrs. J. Rush Ball, of Troy. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards gave all of their children a liberal education, and two of the sons, Walter and Francis O., became prominent in the work in which they were engaged, the former in the newspaper field , and the latter in the employ of the government. In her girlhood days Mrs. Edwards united with the Methodist Church, South, and during her long life remained faithful and active in this church. Through all of her active life her thoughts were in sympathy for her fellowmen, and generally her thoughts were interpreted into deeds. A wide circle of relatives and friends knew her lovingly as Aunt Mary, and to many she was more as a mother than a neighbor and friend. For a number of years her aged husband held an appointive position in the Senate at Washington, C.D., and for many years was one of the most widely known men of the eastern part of Missouri. During the late illness of his companion he was constantly at her side, and helped to administer every possible want and comfort. The funeral services were conducted at the family home Monday, November 26 by Rev. G. A. Schlueter, pastor of the Shiloh Methodist church, after which interment took place in the cemetery on the old homestead. A large crowd gathered to pay the last tribute to a kind neighbor and devoted mother. Warrenton Banner November 30, 1917
