April 3, 1942 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Mary T. Bailey, who was ninety-one years old, died at her home, 1020 North Clark street, about 10 o'clock Thursday night, her death being attributed to frailties attendant to her advanced age. She had been in declining health for more than a year and bedfast at her home since last Dec. 14. Funeral services are to be at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral home, with the Rev. W.F. Clayburg, minister of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. Friends may view the body at the funeral home where it is resting until the time of the rites. Mrs. Bailey headed five generations, her survivors including daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She had lived in Carroll county for fifty-eight years. She was born Nov. 12, 1850, at Chesterhill, Morgan County, Ohio. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson, were of Quaker faith. Jan. 4, 1872, she was married in the town of her birth to George W. Bailey. About a year later they moved to Missouri, locating first at Maryville, in Nodaway county. After a short period of residence there, they farmed in Lewis county for seven years. In 1884 they came to Carroll county to make their home on a farm north of Carroll, where they lived for ten years. Moving into the city in 1894 Mrs. Bailey had resided here from that time forward. Since the death of her husband in May, 1910, her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Charles J. Gray, and family, had made their home with her. Mrs. Bailey leaves two daughters, Mrs. J.S. Wicks (Eleanor) of Whitefish, Mont., and Mrs Charles J. Gray (Laura), of Carroll; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Wicks was here when her mother passed away, having arrived Wednesday evening. Mrs. Bailey was the last of a family of seven children, five brothers and one sister having preceded her in death. Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Methodist Church. She was one of the oldest members of the Times Herald Three-Quarter Century Club.
