Read More	From: Akron Register Tribune, April 27, 1933 DEATH CLAIMS A PIONEER WOMAN Mrs. Mary Buryanek Had Lived Near Westfield for Many Years Mrs. Mary Buryanek, a resident of Iowa for the past forty-two years, passed away at her home, six miles east of Westfleld, Iowa, last Friday, after an illness of nearly six months. She suffered a stroke early in November, 1932, from which she never fully recovered. After being bedfast for eight weeks, her robust constitution enabled her to , gain sufficient strength to get about the house some, and she always had a great determination to get well and do her work again; but some weeks later her strength began to fail, with complications setting from which she never rallied and causing her death on April 21, 1933, at the advanced age of 76 years 3 months and 14 days. Mary Valenta was born in Bohemia August 7, 1856, and came to America in May 1878. She was united in marriage with Frank Buryanek, January 7, 1883, he being a widower at that time. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Mrs. Buryanek and her husband drove across Iowa to the South Dakota territory and homesteaded a claim for five years, experiencing the hardships and trials of pioneer settlers. Later she moved back to Iowa and for the past thirty-six years has resided on the farm where she died, in western Plymouth county. She leaves to mourn her departure three sons and two daughters—John, Thomas and Adolph, of Westfield township; Mrs. Helen Faust, also of Westfield, and Mrs. Clara Feauto, near Akron, la. She Is also survived by five step-children— Joseph, of McPherson, Kansas; Frank, of Pueblo, Colo.; James, of Burke, S. D.: Will, of Vermillion, S.D., and Mrs. Mary Mattas, of Merrill, Ia.; also by thirty-two grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on February 10, 1930, and one step-son died in 1924. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, a devoted neighbor and, a trustworthy friend. Brief services were held at the home at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with Rev. N. A. Hollingshead, of the Adaville U. B. church, officiating. The pallbearers were her two sons, Thomas and Adolph Buryanek; sons-in-law Ambrose Feauto and John Faust, Jr. and grandsons, Leslie and Lawrence Mattas. The remains were laid to rest in the Westfield cemetery, beside her husband.
