Description	:	WESTFIELD, NC ~ Mrs. Mary Vernell Palmer Payne, 73, of Sandy Inman Road passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Stokes County to Elijah Lee and Lillian Hester Jones Palmer. She was a homemaker and a member of Westfield Baptist Church. She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Stokes County to Elijah Lee and Lillian Hester Jones Palmer. She was a homemaker and a member of Westfield Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Glenn Payne Jr., of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Ted Jackson of Pilot Mountain and Brenda and Kenneth Jessup of Clemmons; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff and Susan Payne of Pinnacle and Robert Lynn and Karen Payne of Westfield; five grandchildren, Lisa Jackson, Ashley Payne Atkins, and husband Kevin, Jessica Payne, Ellis Payne and Joseph Payne; and a brother, Billy Ray Palmer of King. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by a brother, John David Palmer. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joel Stephens. Interment will follow at Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening, Oct. 9, 2002, at the funeral home. The Payne family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.
