Description	:	Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, January 16 at the Methodist Church for Mrs. Mary V. Pierce, 92, with Rev. Douglas Jones officiating. Miss Nancy Osborn was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Aage Petersen. Pallbearers were Burdette Lintt, George Flesner, Ray Flesner, Kenneth Beed, Everett Flesner and Alvin Flesner. Burial was in the Union Cemetery at Battle Creek with Steffen Mortuary in charge. She was the former Mary Virginia Martin, daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Hale Martin. On December 19, 1894, she married George Willis Pierce at Rural Retreat, VA. In 1902 they came to the Battle Creek vicinity where they farmed for several years, later moving to Battle Creek. To this union 8 children were born. Survivors are Mrs. Nellie Lou VanEvery of Battle Creek, Mrs. Polly Lee Flesner, Norfolk; Mrs. Bessie Ellen Beed and Mrs. Maude Beed, both of Tilden; William Thomas Pierce of Bartlett, and George Ray Pierce, Battle Creek; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 13 great-greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Thursey Bridges of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband who died January 22, 1923, 2 sons, Louis Filmore who died December 28, 1917 and Fred who died February 14, 1966. SOURCE: Norfolk Daily News, Norfolk, NE.
