Description	:	Centerville – Mrs. J.W. Colter, 83, of Allerton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith De Silva, of near Allerton at 7:15 a.m. Thursday [April 15, 1937]. She had been an Allerton resident thirty-five years and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Order of Eastern Star, having been the first worthy matron of the Eastern Star of Allerton. Colter, 83, of Allerton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith De Silva, of near Allerton at 7:15 a.m. Thursday [April 15, 1937]. She had been an Allerton resident thirty-five years and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Order of Eastern Star, having been the first worthy matron of the Eastern Star of Allerton. She was born Mary Virginia Perry, in Maine in 1854, the daughter of Mark and Marcia Wellington Perry, and came to Iowa with her parents as a child. They settled in Appanoose county. She was married to J.W. Coulter and they established their home at Numa, where they reared their family. Mr. Coulter was for many years a Rock Island railroad employe. Three children preceded her in death. Her husband died nine years ago. Her parents, one brother and two sisters also preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Harry of Leon, L.D. (“Jack”) Coulter, Rock Island railroad operator at Centerville, and Jesse, Rock Island railroad employe at St. Joseph, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Jackson of Centerville and Mrs. Edith De Silva of near Allerton; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild, Robert Chenowith of Centerville, and great-grandchild, Bobby Chenowith; a sister and a brother. Mrs. Coulter had visited often in Centerville and had many friends in this community. Funeral services will be at the Allerton Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Allerton cemetery. (Ottumwa Daily Courier, Ottumwa, IA, April 16, 1937) Mrs. T.C. Coulter was called to Allerton, Iowa, last Thursday by the death of Mrs. J.W.
