Description	:	Mrs. Mary Williams Turner, 94, widow of Dr. William P. Turner died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the Hospice House in Greenwood SC. She was born in Clay County, Alabama on September 4, 1921 to the late Mr. Wendell A. and Alice Steed Williams. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and Valdosta State Women's College. Following this, she earned a degree in laboratory medicine at Emory University of Atlanta and was then employed at Greenville Memorial Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Bill Turner, who was in his general surgery residency training. She and Bill were married on... Read More	Mrs. Mary Williams Turner, 94, widow of Dr. William P. Turner died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the Hospice House in Greenwood SC. She was born in Clay County, Alabama on September 4, 1921 to the late Mr. Wendell A. and Alice Steed Williams. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and Valdosta State Women's College. Following this, she earned a degree in laboratory medicine at Emory University of Atlanta and was then employed at Greenville Memorial Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Bill Turner, who was in his general surgery residency training. She and Bill were married on June 20, 1942. Shortly after their marriage, World War II erupted and they were apart for more than three years as Dr. Bill was a ship based surgeon in the Pacific Navy Fleet. During those three years, Mary remained in Greenwood and worked in the medical office of her father-in-law, Dr. Prep Turner. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood and a member and teacher of the Benson Sunday School class. She was a past president of the SC Medical Auxiliary and active in the Greenwood community in numerous clubs and organizations.
