Read More	Marye Alice Goemaat October 9, 1940 - November 1, 2020 Obituary for Mary Alice Goemaat Marye Alice Goemaat, age 80, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Pella Regional Hospital in Pella, Iowa. Marye was born on October 9, 1940, East of Bussey, Iowa. She was the daughter of Orlie and Vera (Stephens) Flanders. Marye grew up around Bussey until the age of 7, when her family then moved to Attica. Marye attended Attica High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. After high school, she attended Iowa Wesleyan College for one year. Marye and Donald Goemaat met at Attica School. They started dating in high school and were married on November, 7, 1959. They worked side by side on the farm with livestock, crops, gardens, and raising their family and building their home. They shared their love with everyone. Mary held various jobs during her work career. She worked at the A&W in Indianola, Knoxville V.A, Knoxville Greenhouse, and Knoxville Raceway. She also worked as a U.S. Census worker, was on the Board of Tax Review for 23 years, was an Election Poll worker, and worked part-time at the Marion County Treasurer office. Marye enjoyed volunteering her time as a 4-H leader, 4-H judge, and at the Historical Society of Marion County. She also volunteered with the Quilting Club, Girl Scouts, and the UMC Women Society. Marye was also a recipient of Five Length of Service Leader Award. Marye’s hobbies included gardening, talting, beading, leather working, crocheting, needlepoint, hand quilting, black powder shooting buckskinners, jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, card games, dominoes, growing flowers, mushroom hunting, blackberry hunting, crafts, canning, and fishing. She was an avid recordkeeper for the family history and loved to cook and bake. She was a taxi service for anybody that needed it. Those left to cherish Marye’s memory include her husband of almost 61 years, Donald Goemaat; daughters, Marye Mardell (Randy) Sandstrom, Melinda Annette (Todd) Rowland, Marcia Lynn (Randy) Shives; grandchildren, Shelene (Toran) Billups, Nathan (Callen) Williams, Jessica (TJ Yakesh) Shives, Heather (Joel) Schmidt, and Kaitlynn Marye Akiko (Smeet Mistry) Sandstrom. She is also survived by great-grandhildren, Christopher Billups, Ryder Schmidt, and Harper Alice Schmidt; also many other family members. A family burial will take place at Gullion Cemetery in rural Knoxville on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. Winfield Funeral Home is assisting the family.
