Interment will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Marye Ruth was born Aug. 12, 1922 in Paris, Idaho, daughter of the late Jesse and Martha (Stocker) Latham. The family lived in the Blackfoot and Jerome areas of Idaho through her early years. They later moved to Nyssa, Ore., where she graduated from high school. Following high school Mary Ruth continued to live in the Caldwell, Idaho area. While there she met Norris Wood and they were married on Feb. 28, 1952 in Medford, Ore. In 1954 they moved to the Columbia Basin. She was instrumental in the building of the Othello Public Library and worked as the librarian until 1964. At that time, they moved to Moses Lake where they have lived since. She continued to work as a librarian at Big Bend Community College, South Campus and later at the present location of BBCC, retiring around 1980. Marye Ruth was an accomplished artist, enjoying painting with watercolor and acrylics and also working with pottery. She enjoyed spending time at the Moses Lake Senior Center, where she was a member, playing pinochle and she always greeted her friends there with "Where's my hug?" She also enjoyed watching Norris bowl and playing card games of all kinds, especially cribbage. In her spare time she loved to volunteer, for several years at the Calico Cat, and was only limited by her health. Since retirement, she and Norris had traveled extensively with their travel trailer. She is survived by her loving husband, Norris Wood, Moses Lake; three children, Marye "Katie" Kendall, Moses Lake, Richard "Rick" Rietz, Moses Lake, Mel Wood, Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; one sister, Lucille Warren, Newberg, Ore.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One brother, Jim Latham, and two sisters, Jessie Plant and Twila Lantz, preceded her in death. Columbia Basin Herald, Thursday, February 9, 2006, Moses Lake, Washington
