Description	:	Maryland V. Rice, 78, formerly of 1615 First Avenue, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Lutheran Homes where she had been residing. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jim Beaham, Mike Murphy, Allen Brown, Larry Brown Jr., David Brockert Jr. and Les Brockert. Honorary Bearers will be Gil Sikkora and Ron Westaway. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a funeral luncheon at the Knights of Columbus following the committal service. Mrs. Rice was born on October 5, 1924, in Fruitland, the daughter of Louis and Phoebe Jane Holliday Olson. She married Charles T. Rice on July 13, 1947 in Iowa City. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1984. She had worked at H.J. Heinz Company for 30 years retiring in 1983. She was well known for her cooking and baking. Survivors include her beloved granddaughter, Emily Sikkora and her husband, Gil; great-grandchildren, Danny and Jenni; one brother, Maynard C. Olson and his wife, Edith, of King City, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Marcella Moore in 1999.
